Description

Ramla Beach is one of many beaches in Gozo, Malta, but it stands out for its beautiful orange sand. It's one of the most natural sandy beaches in Malta, completely free of hotels and development. Many locals come here for a swim and simply to relax and enjoy nature.

I visited Ramla Bay in June 2020, shortly after Malta lifted some of its Covid-19 restrictions. A few weeks prior, a mama sea turtle laid a nest of eggs in the sand. An environmental group roped off the area, protecting the nest from the distractions of visitors and helping ensure they hatched and made their way to the water.
