Description
Church of Our Savior, otherwise known as Nuuk Cathedral, is a tiny wooden Lutheran church located in the downtown area of Nuuk, Greenland. The church was built in 1848, and it remains a very familiar landmark in the capital city. The interior of the church consists of wooden pews and white religious sculptures.
The focal point is the altar, adorned with a crucifix at its center, surrounded by numerous lit candles in brass candlesticks. Above the altar, two large framed paintings of angels provide a celestial backdrop. The church is illuminated by ornate chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, casting a warm, golden glow throughout the space. Wooden chairs are arranged in rows, leading up to the altar, with a central aisle covered in a rich red carpet.
I took this photo after the Easter Sunday service at the church in April 2023 while visiting Greenland.
